MUFG, one of the world’s most respected financial groups, is seeking a Model Validation Vice President to join their EMEA Model Risk Management team in London. What you'll do:

As Model Validation Vice President at MUFG in London, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the integrity of the group’s risk management framework through rigorous independent validation of quantitative models. Your day-to-day activities will involve designing challenger models, conducting thorough reviews of frameworks and assumptions, testing numerical implementations, and preparing comprehensive reports for oversight committees. Success in this role requires not only technical proficiency but also strong interpersonal skills as you collaborate with colleagues across departments. You will be responsible for ensuring that all models meet regulatory standards while proactively identifying areas for improvement. By tracking remediation actions and staying abreast of industry advancements, you will help drive continuous enhancement of MUFG’s modelling capabilities. Your contributions will directly support the group’s mission to build long-term client relationships based on trust and shared growth.

  • Conduct initial and periodic validation of quantitative models used across various asset classes, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Design, model, and prototype challenger models independently to provide alternative perspectives on existing methodologies.
  • Perform comprehensive quantitative analysis and review of model frameworks, assumptions, input data, and results to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Test numerical implementations of models thoroughly while reviewing associated documentation for completeness and clarity.
  • Check compliance with governance requirements by evaluating processes against established standards and policies.
  • Document findings meticulously in validation reports, including raising recommendations for improvements to enhance model performance or mitigate risks.
  • Ensure timely tracking of remediation actions following validation recommendations to maintain high standards of model quality.
  • Prepare detailed model risk reporting for presentation to Model Oversight Committees and the Board, supporting effective decision-making.
  • Collaborate closely with Risk Analytics teams and Front Office quants to facilitate knowledge sharing and support ongoing model enhancements.
  • Stay informed about the latest technical developments in financial mathematics, pricing methodologies, and risk modelling techniques.

What you bring:

To excel as Model Validation Vice President at MUFG, you will bring proven experience in quantitative modelling—particularly within counterparty credit risk or derivatives pricing—and have demonstrable expertise working with xVA models. Your academic background should include advanced studies in mathematics or related fields. You are comfortable implementing complex models using programming languages such as Python or R, applying simulation techniques effectively. Your familiarity with data science concepts enables you to analyse large datasets accurately while maintaining awareness of evolving industry standards. Beyond technical skills, your ability to communicate clearly ensures that findings are understood by stakeholders at all levels. You approach tasks methodically with keen attention to detail; your collaborative nature supports knowledge sharing across teams. These qualities position you as an invaluable contributor within MUFG’s inclusive environment.

  • Experience in quantitative modelling (development or validation) within counterparty credit risk or derivatives pricing models.
  • Experience specifically developing or validating xVA models within a financial institution or similar environment.
  • A postgraduate degree in a quantitative discipline such as statistics, mathematics, mathematical finance or econometrics.
  • Strong background in mathematics and probability theory applied to finance contexts.
  • Proficient programming skills in Python or R (or equivalent), enabling effective implementation of complex models.
  • Solid understanding of simulation techniques and numerical methods relevant to financial modelling.
  • Good knowledge of data science principles and statistical inference techniques applicable to risk assessment.
  • Awareness of current technical developments in financial mathematics, pricing strategies, and risk modelling approaches.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for clear explanation of technical matters to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
  • Meticulous attention to detail combined with a structured approach to problem-solving.
