OVERVIEW

The Software Engineering (SE) Guild is a global community of 8,000+ software engineers across Mastercard. The SE Guild exists to develop and share knowledge, standards, practices, and tooling, and to help elevate and maintain the craft of software engineering across the company.

The SE Guild’s work is organized around four pillars:

  • Help software engineers be better engineers

  • Help software engineering leaders be better leaders

  • Solve shared, hard problems through Special Interest Groups (SIGs)

  • Build senior-level technical leadership through Principal Communities

ROLE

As a Principal Technical Program Manager, SE Guild, you will be responsible for helping software engineers get started, find information, learn, and navigate the engineering community.

This is not a traditional product delivery TPM role. Instead, you will create and maintain the resources, processes, and platforms that help engineers connect, learn, and grow throughout their careers.

Over time, this role is expected to take on increasing responsibility and leadership within SE Guild initiatives, based on experience, trust, and demonstrated impact.

Success in this role requires enough software engineering exposure to follow technical discussions and ensure resources are accurate, relevant, and useful for software engineers.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Onboarding & Readiness

  • Own SE Guild onboarding experiences for new Software Engineers, including Interns, Launchers, experienced SEs, and Software Engineering Managers, ensuring content remains current, relevant and effective.

  • Partner with Learning & Development and Talent Acquisition to ensure SE-specific alignment with Mastercard onboarding programs.

  • Knowledge Sharing & Community Infrastructure

  • Own the creation, organization, governance, and continuous improvement of SE Guild documentation, knowledge repositories, onboarding content, and shared resources.

  • Lead major community infrastructure initiatives, including SharePoint redesign, information architecture, content organization, discoverability, and usability.

  • Develop and maintain business continuity plans, documentation, and operational readiness mechanisms that support the long-term sustainability and resilience of SE Guild programs and resources.

  • Career Development & Community Growth

  • Curate, create, and maintain content, resources, and opportunities that help engineers develop skills, build relationships, contribute to the community, and grow their careers.

  • Process Optimization & Automation (make it easier over time)

  • Automate repeatable tasks where feasible using available tools and existing systems, improving reliability and turnaround time.

ALL ABOUT YOU

The ideal candidate has:

  • Significant experience leading complex programs, knowledge-management initiatives, community platforms, or organizational enablement efforts, with the ability to drive outcomes across multiple stakeholders and workstreams.

  • Experience defining and evolving processes, governance models, documentation standards, or operating mechanisms that improve scalability, consistency, and long-term sustainability.

  • Experience designing information architectures, knowledge repositories, onboarding content, or documentation ecosystems that make complex information easy to find, understand, and maintain.

  • Strong technical writing and content management experience, including creating, curating, and maintaining documentation, onboarding resources, and shared knowledge assets.

  • Deep exposure to software engineering principles and practices, with the ability to understand technical context and engage credibly with Senior and Principal Software Engineers.

  • High attention to detail and comfort operating in administrative and operational domains that support large, distributed communities.

  • A collaborative, team-oriented mindset, with the expectation of growing into deeper leadership and ownership of initiatives over time.

Required

  • Fluency in collaboration and productivity tools such as SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Demonstrated experience using AI and automation or data tooling (e.g., Power Automate, Power Query) to streamline operational and enablement workflows.

Nice to have

  • Prior experience as a Software Engineer, Technical Writer, or Information Architect.

  • Experience working with developer-centric tools and documentation workflows, including source control systems (e.g., Bitbucket, GitHub), structured documentation formats (e.g., Markdown, XML), wiki platforms, or documentation-as-code practices.

  • Experience experimenting with or applying AI tools beyond Copilot (e.g., configuring agents, using AI-assisted workflows, or integrating AI tools into enablement or operational processes).

Corporate Security Responsibility

All activities involving access to Mastercard assets, information, and networks comes with an inherent risk to the organization and, therefore, it is expected that every person working for, or on behalf of, Mastercard is responsible for information security and must:

  • Abide by Mastercard’s security policies and practices;

  • Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of the information being accessed;

  • Report any suspected information security violation or breach, and

  • Complete all periodic mandatory security trainings in accordance with Mastercard’s guidelines.
