CoinJar has been providing cryptocurrency services to Australians for over a decade. Since our launch in 2013, we have grown into an international cryptocurrency business, expanding across Australia, the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Head of Compliance to lead our compliance function across our international business. This is a senior, hands-on role responsible for maintaining an effective compliance framework across CoinJar’s operations in Australia, the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States.

The Head of Compliance will act as CoinJar’s designated AML/CTF Compliance Officer in Australia and provide functional leadership and coordination to regional MLROs, compliance personnel and financial crime teams across the group.

The role requires someone who can operate at both a strategic and practical level — advising the Board and executive team, engaging with regulators and partners, and working closely with teams across the business to translate regulatory requirements clearly into proportionate and effective controls. 

What You’ll Do

  • Develop, implement, and maintain compliance policies, procedures, and controls to ensure adherence with regulations.

  • Own and oversee CoinJar’s Australian AML/CTF Program, including customer due diligence (CDD/KYC), transaction monitoring, suspicious matter reporting and associated governance and controls.

  • Lead AML/CTF program reviews and independent audits, including remediation efforts.

  • Act as the designated AML/CTF Compliance Officer with AUSTRAC and lead regulatory engagement in Australia.

  • Oversee the effectiveness of CoinJar’s transaction monitoring, enhanced due diligence, blockchain surveillance and case management controls, working closely with the Financial Crime (FinCrime) team to continuously improve monitoring, investigation and escalation processes.

  • Work closely with Legal, FinCrime and teams across the business to ensure regulatory requirements are translated into proportionate and effective operational controls.

  • Oversee compliance with Australian financial services regulatory requirements, including obligations arising under Australia’s Australian Financial Services Licensing regime.

  • Oversee compliance processes relating to complaints, incidents, breaches and regulatory notifications.

  • Provide timely compliance input into new products, tokens, customer journeys, marketing and other material business changes.

  • Provide functional leadership and coordination to regional Compliance Managers and MLROs, while recognising jurisdiction-specific responsibilities

  • Coordinate staff training on regulatory obligations, AML/CTF awareness, and risk management protocols.

  • Monitor relevant regulatory developments across CoinJar’s markets and proactively advise the Board and management team on material changes and their impact on the business.

  • Lead or support engagement with regulators, industry bodies, working groups, banking partners and other key external stakeholders.

  • Significant experience in a senior compliance, AML/CTF, financial crime or regulatory roles within financial services, payments, digital assets, fintech or another highly regulated environment.

  • Strong knowledge of Australian AML/CTF obligations and experience overseeing an AML/CTF compliance framework.

  • Strong understanding of Australian financial services regulation.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide clear, pragmatic regulatory advice to senior executives and business teams.

  • Experience coordinating compliance responsibilities across multiple jurisdictions is highly regarded.

  • Digital asset, cryptocurrency, payments or fintech experience is highly regarded.
